As Disaster Shelters are already built on the most vulnerable areas and to be built more, can we think about the future development of the structures with integrated food & medicine storage & distribution center so that we can evolve from post-disaster Foreign Aid based Development to a more Resilient & Self Sustainable Development? Instead of working from different projects under departments this can be achieved by connecting these projects all together & introducing a new identity as Adaptive Infrastructure.

Southkhali Union is located in Sarankhola Upazila of Bagerhat District. For the network analysis the travel time is considered as 2 km per hour in an average. Capacity of CS is also an important factor in this analysis. Because all the people in 1 kilometer distance may not take shelter in cyclone shelter due to low capacity.

After analyzing the data, it was found that 52% of total people can be evacuated during an emergency in cyclone shelter. Vulnerable households are those which are beyond the service area where more than 10,000 people resided. Instead existing rural bazaars are more accessible as these are always located within the communities. These nearly cover all of the total population.

Form and shape can play a vital role to reduce the wind pressure on structures. A slanted facade can reduce upto 65% of the pressure that hit on a vertical wall.

Prototypes are designed with a connection area which is free from circulation elements. Connector prototypes will connect first & then other prototypes will be connected later.

The connection system generates numerous numbers of combinations & possibilities. Every coastal sites demands different need & numbers of prototypes. To find the suitable combination of prototypes for a specific site requires much quicker & computational method.

Thus Generative Design process can be adapted. Grasshopper algorithms & Biomorpher tool can be used to filter out suitable combination of prototype with some basic parameters such as Site boundery, Site Components (trees, other building elements), Prototype preferences etc. Also this can be further developed by integrating climate data of the specific site.

To change something, build a new model that makes the existing model obsolete.”
